Subtract the width of the runner from the width of the stairway surfaces and divide by two. Mark this measurement from all sides of the step and the runner will be centered. Measure a length of tackless strips 2 inches shorter than the width of the runner and cut it with metal scissors. Center it between pencil lines and nail it to the tread where it meets riser. Repeat at each step.
Decorative Carpet Stair Tread
Stair tread rugs – Each stair carpet is mainly a runner. A wide runner covers the entire tread, while a narrow one should be focused. Follow the instructions carefully when you place the carpet on stairs. Carpet that is poorly secured can slide, wrinkle and cause slipping and falling. Bear in mind that in case you use glue to attach carpets, it should be used sparingly as it’s difficult to remove. Start installing tackless runners, where the tread (horizontal) meets riser (vertical) in steps.
